A Sanctuary of Peace and History
Urgam is named after Urvashi, son of king Puranjaya of Pandavas lineage. Urva Rishi Temple is nestled in the beautiful mountain village of Bassa, Urgam Valley. It one of our favourite destinations to visit in this valley and only a 1 hour hike way from our YogMatra Eco Homestay.
Urva Rishi Temple is built on the outskirts of a dense jungle and sits quietly beside the rushing waters of the Urva Rishi River. It is not just a place of worship but a hidden gem where spirituality and nature intertwine.
Dedicated to the sage Urva Rishi, who is said to have meditated in these serene surroundings, the temple is a tribute to the ancient Indian traditions that hold this valley sacred. Urva Rishi is a revered figure in Hindu mythology, known for his deep spiritual wisdom and connection to nature. It is believed that his meditations here sanctified the area, making it a place where spiritual seekers can find solace and clarity.
The temple’s current guardian, Baba Ji, lives in a humble mud house next to the temple. His love for the place is evident in every corner. Over the past few months, he has carefully tended to the gardens around the temple, and now the flowers he planted are in full bloom. The Baba Ji’s devotion to maintaining the temple’s sanctity and beauty ensures that every visitor feels welcome and at peace.
Whether you are a spiritual seeker or simply someone looking to escape the noise of everyday life, this temple offers a space for reflection and rejuvenation. For anyone traveling to Urgam Valley, a visit to Urva Rishi Temple is a must.
